Abstract
This paper explores the historical and cultural significance of the Sarays in Sulaimani and Kfri, two prominent cities in South Kurdistan. These Sarays have historically served as administrative centers, symbolizing political authority and architectural identity within their respective cities. Although their architectural styles differ—reflecting unique regional influences—they both embody the quintessential characteristics of traditional palace design.
Over time, both palaces have undergone renovations, leading to changes in their functions. Currently, the Sulaimani Saray serves a limited role, hosting minor activities without a specific purpose. In contrast, Kfri Palace has been repurposed as the site of the Kfri Archaeological Directorate and has become a prominent tourist attraction. It hosts various social, cultural, and artistic events, contributing to the cultural vitality and tourism industry of the region.
This study emphasizes the factors that motivate the adaptive reuse and growth of such historic buildings. It examines how repurposing these palaces—particularly by deploying them as cultural centers or tourist attractions—can foster economic development, promote cultural preservation, and enhance regional identity. By analyzing these factors, the paper aims to propose sustainable strategies for transforming historic palaces into vibrant spaces that attract visitors and contribute to the social and cultural fabric of South Kurdistan.

شارەکانی سلێمانی و کفری دوو لە شارە گرنگەکانی باشوری کوردستانن، ڕۆڵی گرنگیان گێڕاوە لە مێژووی ناوچەکەدا. بوونی سەرا لەم شارانەدا ئاماژەیەکی ڕوونە بۆ گرنگی پێگەیان. سەرا بە یەکەیەکی گرنگی شار دادەنرێت، بیناسازیەکەی لە چوارچێوەی بیناسازی کارگێری هەژمارکراوە و شوێنی ڕایکردنی کاروباری شاربووە، واتا شوێنی (والی) بووە. سەراکان خاوەن بیناسازی تایبەت بە خۆیانن و بێگومان شێوازی بیناسازی سەراکانی سلێمانی و کفری جیاوازیان هەیە لە ڕووی تەلارسازییەوە، بەڵام لە بنەڕەتدا هەموو تایبەتمەندی سەرا لە خۆدەگرن.
سەراکانی بە قۆناغی نوێژەنکردنەوەدا تێپەڕیون، لە ئێستادا ئەرکی هەردوو سەراکە گۆڕاوە، سەرای سلێمانی لە ئێستادا هیچ ئەرکێکی دیاریکراوی نییە، تەنها ئەوە نەبێ چەند چالاکیەکی بچووک تێدا ئەنجام دەدەرێت. بەڵام سەرای کفری لە ئێستادا کراوە بە شوێنی بەڕێوبەرایەتی شوێنەواری کفری و وەک سەنتەرێکی گرنگی گەشتیاریش هەژمار دەکرێت، چونکە چەندین کاری هونەری کۆمەڵایەتی و ڕۆشنبیری تێدا ئەنجام دەدرێت. ئەم توێژینەوەیە جەخت دەخاتە سەر هەموو ئەو هۆکارانەی کە پاڵنەرن بۆ گەشەکردنی ئەم جۆرە بینایانە، و بە گەڕخستنیان لە شاردا بۆ ئەرکێکی تری کە سەرنجی گەشتیاران ڕابکێشێت.
