Abstract
Active morphotectonic processes have a significant impact on river valley systems, faults, and folds, leading to direct imbalances in basins.This research focuses on the issue of geomorphic indices of morphotectonic activities by using quantitative methods and advanced technologies including ArcGIS 10.8, RS, and Digital Elevation Model (DEM 12.5) file.The purpose of this study is to analysis the risk of morphotectonic activity of both basins (Sarkapkan and Qashan) in the Ranya district by using geomorphic indices equations. The hypsometric integral values of the Sarkapkan and Qashan basins reach 0.5 and 0.4, respectively, indicating a mature geomorphic stage and moderate tectonic activity. In terms of the asymmetry factor, the Sarkapkan basin has high tectonic activity on the right side and deflection of the main river to the left, while the Qashan basin has high tectonic activity on the left side and veers of the main river to the right. According to the Transverse Topographic Symmetry Factor, the tectonic activity of the basins is moderate; the Sarkapkan and Qashan basins have values of 0.4 and 0.3, respectively. Regarding the basin shape, the value of the Qashan basin reaches 2.65, indicating moderate tectonic activity, while the value of the Sarkapkan basin reaches 4.72, indicating high tectonic activity. Results of the final classification of relative tectonic activity indicate that the basins are in a context of high tectonic activity because the study area is one of the tectonically active regions close to the collision site of the Arabian and Iranian plates.
